The things I listen to when I hike

I’ll be honest and say I have never really liked wearing headphones of any description. When I am walking in the hills or on the beach I love to hear the sounds arounds me, not some thumping music to make me blissfully unaware of my surroundings.

But in the last few years, podcasts, audiobooks, and the endless music variety on platforms like Spotify have made listening more appealing. Then came the game-changer. I bought a pair of Shokz Openrun headphones. And let me tell you—I LOVE them.

What makes them so great? They don't sit in your ears. They rest just outside, so you can still feel connected to the world around you. Walking and running in a place as serene as Adelaide is something most people can only dream of, and these headphones let me enjoy the best of both worlds.

Today, during my three-hour hike in the Adelaide Hills, I started listening to Help Me by Marianne Power. I got through the first couple of chapters, where Marianne talks about how even everyday fears, like parallel parking, can feel daunting. She explains how the key to change isn't the big things, but the small, consistent actions that build up over time. Oh yes, that definitely resonated with me!

So far, I've listened to just a small part of her journey as she tackles these smaller fears, gradually building her confidence—though not always enough to face the bigger, more personal fears right away.

This book has definitely captured my attention.

As for the hike, it wasn't easy today. 3 hour hike with 390m ascent. I felt every bit of it!

I've got a long way to go before I can start running the hills, but today was a step in the right direction. And who knows? With a little perseverance (and the right soundtrack), anything is possible.

Keep posted for more things that I listen too!
