5km and upwards - Rebuilding my running routine
Every time I take a break and stop running for even just a couple of weeks I feel like I have to start from scratch again! Having just come back from a holiday visiting family and friends in the UK, it had been at least 4 weeks since my last run.
I train with Brighton Group Fitness every Monday morning for the 6am running session. Today, I decided to see if I could complete 5km.
There is something about completing 5km that always makes me feel satisfied. It is never a breeze. The last kilometer always seems to be the longest (although that could be said for any run). This was my baseline to track my training and my progression. I have never done a park run as the time coincides with one of my other hobbies, golf. You’ll find me on the golf course most Saturday mornings! So, I have to track every run myself.
I’m not one for stats, but this is what my Garmin told me:
Distance: 5.01km
Average heart rate: 120bpm
Average pace: 6.31/km
Later that week, I also ran another 4km on Wednesday evening and 4km on Friday morning with a few light hill sprints.
When I run, I always start cautiously. I am not one to sprint out of the blocks. I am very aware of how easy it is to pull a muscle – my legs feel it a lot, and I think that is why I always feel like I leave a bit in the tank. Hopefully, that mentality is going to get me through the ultra.
In the upcoming posts, I plan to share more videos and pictures of my journey. You’ll see every picture of me in a raw state – no touching up to make it look good. Running is a gritty and real experience, and I want to share that authenticity with you.
Follow me on this journey as I strive to reach new milestones and eventually conquer the Yurrebilla 56km trail. Your support means the world to me, and I hope my story inspires you to pursue your own goals, no matter how big or small.
